Clementine & Vanilla Vodka for Christmas

A delicious drink to make as a Christmas gift for family or friends

A delicious drink to make as a Christmas gift for family or friends

I have made this little beauty for a Christmas hamper for some friends this year, and oh my does it smell good. Personally I am not a fan of vodka, but it does make a great base for making your own homemade liqueurs. It is so lovely to make your own hampers especially for family when you have little children who want to make yummy kitchen treats. Decant the vodka into a beautiful bottle and add a gift tag and some decorative string, who wouldn’t want that?!

You will need:

  • 10 Clementines
  • 1 litre of vodka
  • 2 vanilla pods
  • 750g of sugar
  • 750g of water

Peel the clementines and with a small, sharp knife remove the white pith so you just have zest (pith is very bitter so you need to get it all or you risk a nasty after taste with your drink!).

Split the vanilla pods lenthways and put them in a pan with the sugar and water. Heat through until the sugar is dissolved and then simmer for 5 minutes, setting aside for 20 minutes after that.

Pop the cooled sugar water mixture, vodka and zests into a sealable jar or bottle and leave for at least a month, shaking daily.

That’s it! Try to resist the temptation to open the jar and have a taste until it’s ready!
