Bite size and delicious, who could resist them?!

I have written about my cake pop maker before (you can read all about it here – though I warn you, I am a little bit smitten with it) and although everyone can figure out that it makes cake pops, what a lot of people don’t know it can make really quickly is doughnuts! That’s right, delicious scrummy doughnuts!

Sometimes we fill ours with jam, other times custard and, if Toby is involved, chocolate. Lot’s of chocolate. Just before anyone chooses to judge this, he’d had two mini doughnuts. That’s right, this mess is from two.

So I thought I’d share my recipe of how to make doughnuts, and although I make them in the cake pop machine, you could use the same recipe to make doughnuts using the traditional method baking in the oven (though this will take 25-30 minutes.)

How to make doughnuts:

  • 230g Plain (All purpose) Flour
  • 125g Caster sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 125g butter
  • 180ml milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • caster sugar for coating
  • jam of your choice for filling.

First thing is first. Heat up your cake pop maker, or if you are frying the fryer.

Combine the dry ingredients, then mix together the egg, butter and milk. Add to the dry ingredients and beat together to make a smooth batter.

If you are using the mould then you need to fill to the brim and close the lid, leaving for roughly 4-6 minutes. If you are baking in the oven then fill a baking tray to half full and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Once the doughnuts are cooked, take out of the pop maker or oven and leave to cool for a few minutes. While they are still warm use a syringe to fill them with a jam of your choice. You could try caramel, custard or pretty much anything!

Roll in the sugar and consume before the kids get them all!
