It’s been a time since I did anything significant in the kitchen with the boys other than the odd spot of baking. I don’t know why, I guess they just don’t have the same enthusiasm that they used to; playing with their toys is so much more fun, and I don’t really have the same time that I always had before! I really do love getting them into the kitchen though, and I’ve made the decision to get in there more often with them over the upcoming festive periods, starting with Halloween. I’m planning to bake a spooky haunted house and send it in to school with Reuben (and who knows, maybe one for Toby too!)

I’ve mentioned a few times on the blog that I think cookware for children is really important, there is little fun to be had if the utensils are so big that you simply can’t use them, or mummy is forever shouting ‘don’t touch that knife!’ I want the boys to learn a skill at the end of the day, and skills require tools! My favourite new web shop for children’s cooking accessories is The Little Cook Company, because they have everything from aprons for children to whisks, kitchen accessories, utensils and so much more. What I love even more about this webshop is that it is owned locally, and I do love to support a home grown, local business that is run by another Mummy. The Little Cook Company was born out of desperation to find genuinely fun, easy to use cooking utensils and bakeware for children after owner, Karen, and her little girls couldn’t find anything that was vibrant and fun enough to keep up with them.

I’m absolutely smitten with this wonderful range of Headchefs they stock. The ‘heads’ are all working utensils but the bodies are mouldable silicone so they can grasp things, hang on the wall, sit up and watch you decorate your baking and are just generally great fun. With Christmas around the corner, I think the kids will need some new bakeware in order to help Mummy and Maw Maw with the festive baking.

I love bakeware for kids, it makes it so much easier for them. Loving your spooky haunted house idea, good luck with that

It’s great fun baking with them isn’t it? We’re going for the haunted house today – goodness knows what monstrosity we’ll produce haha!
