You will know by now that I am a huge advocate for kids in the kitchen, and I genuinely do believe that children should be in the kitchen baking from a young age, hence the reason we invested in our wonderful learning tower (which you can read about here).

Lately I have been teaching Reuben about knives and knife safety in the kitchen, but despite explaining to him how to hold a knife properly (never to touch the silver/steel part, always hold the handle etc etc etc), I still can’t bring myself to let him chop things while I stand back and supervise. I am always holding his hands, with my finger underneath his to act as an extra barrier before the steel of the knife… which is a shame as I’m pretty sure he could do it alone, its just not worth (or responsible parenting!) to risk it!

Roo adores his knife from Kiddikutter, it makes him feel so grown up to be able to chop things without me holding his hands. Its great because I can still walk him through knife safety - but without the heart palpitations!

No way can your child cut themselves!

So when I came across these knives from Kiddikutter I was delighted! They come in a range of fun and funky colours, are totally BPA free and are made of coated stainless steel so will cut through the toughest fruit and veg, but not skin! The lovely Maria from Kiddikutter kindly sent Reuben a couple of knives to try out, and he absolutely loves them. As soon as they arrived we had to use them to chop up some strawberries, which we obviously had to eat straight away! The knife chopped through the strawberries in just the same way mine would but could not cut skin (and my husband gave it a test on his own hand and fingers before we allowed Roo to use it!).

Kiddikutter knives are used in cookery schools for kids world wide and are fab for teaching kids about knife safety, without the panic attacks for Mama!
