5 Ideas for Date Nights IN the House

This might sound utterly ridiculous but lately we’ve really been enjoying date nights *in*. That’s right, date nights in the hizang, the casa de la Shearsmith, in the pjs (or maybe dressed up – but in the comfort of our own home) and chillaxing.

I thought I would share a few tips on how to have the best date nights IN, the nights where you never leave your humble abode but get to spend some quality time together.

1.) Movie & Pizza in BED.

Yup, put the kids to bed, don your pjs and clamber into bed with a glass of wine/gin/cuppa and a take away pizza to eat together. We’ve been doing this so often that we have stopped going to the cinema – all the movies that we haven’t seen because I was pregnant or we had just had a baby and the cinema was too much effort are now out on sky or Netflix, so why waste money going to the cinema?!

2.) Gamer Heaven.

Kids to bed, check. Battle gear in the form of pjs on, check. Take away delivered or home cooked nibbles/Doritos, check. Then it’s time to Game! When I was a kid I LOVED Crash Bandicoot, I would go so far as to say I was a boss. Uhhh-huh. Adam feels that he was too so we’ve been settling the score with gaming nights. It’s silly fun that allows us to be a bit childish and just enjoy each other’s company. Gaming is defo a top date night for us.

3.) Board games are not Boring.

I’ve kicked Adam’s arse at scrabble many times although probably not as often as he’s kicked mine… background tv, easy watching and a glass of wine – perfect.

4.) Get fancy.

One of the things that friends have said to me is that they miss getting dressed up and going out, but you don’t have to get out to dress up. Don your fave dress, do your hair and pop on your make up. Grab an M&S dine in package, or grab your fav take away and a bottle of something with a delish dessert to finish. Set the table with candles and pop on some music. B-e-a-utiful.

5.) Tapas and talking.

You know what is underestimated? Talking. I used to love lying awake until the wee hours and talking, I don’t think it would be until the wee hours so much now but it is 100% a great date night in. Tapas is surprisingly easy to do yourself, or you can buy it from your local deli and grab some delicious bread to enjoy. Adam and I sat up playing cards, talking and nibbling tapas in Portugal and it was one of my fave memories as silly as that sounds.

So there you have it, 5 ideas to date in your house, whether you’re feeling fancy or not. PERFECT!

H 🙂

Love this. My Husband and I have *in* Date nights every Friday. We don’t have anyone to look after the kids really or have them overnight, so why should that stop us from having some *us* time? We’d be like you guys; takeaways in bed with a movie, gaming nights and just generally kicking back and saying Hi to each other because we can be like ships in the night otherwise!
