Chunkabuns :: The jeans that grow.

As a mum of three I’ve always been a fan of getting my thrift on. We buy second hand toys all the time, shop around for the best deals and in the cases where the clothes can be passed down, they are. The one thing that I never really get to pass down is jeans, Reuben is so rough on his, and when it comes to jeans for a baby or toddler, you can’t really pass down something that has been abused through nappy squelches and potty training, they are usually totally destroyed. So in reality, I would like something that will grow and grow with my kids until they don’t need it any more, hold in nappy muckiness and be leak proof AND be easy for potty training (something we’re going through right now!). There isn’t anything though is there?

Until now.

Enter, with grandest flare, Chunkabuns.

Not only is the name beyond cute, but the products are too, and not to mention practical.

Edith was sent a pair to try out and, I won’t lie, I was dubious. The jeans named the “sweet jean” claim to take a child with chunky (or not) thighs from the age of 9 months, where they will be wearing a super padded cloth nappy, through to 24 months where they won’t need to wear the nappy anymore but will still need that elasticated waistband to help them getting to and from the toilet. They do this with extendable legs, that you simply snip the stitching on and then BOOM, next size up.

When they arrived and Edith popped them on – by herself, we are all about independence at the mo – the first thing I noticed was how stretchy the material was. Sure, it looked like denim, but if my jeans were made of this stuff, I wouldn’t have been lying on the bed this morning with a coat hanger and puce face. There is plenty of room in the bottom zone to allow for a nappy, even a cloth nappy, which was one of the functions the jeans were designed for. I wasn’t too fussed about this angle as Edith has a very petite little tushie and is now in knickers, but I would have been super impressed with the no-leak feature that Reuben used to find a million ways around.

On to the legs and they looked just like they had been folded up, nothing more or less fancy than that… until you noticed the stitching upon super close inspection. One quick snip of this and the jeans were longer, snug fitting for toddler legs not just baby legs.

In the picture above Edith is wearing the Chunkabuns jean shorts, which are similar in how stretchy they are and comfy – not to mention easy for her to pull up and down as a potty training toddler. So, if you’re a jean lover and you have a cloth nappy wearing baba or a potty training toddler you know what to do!
